NYLCVEF Strategic Plan, 2009-2013

The New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund (NYLCVEF) has laid the foundation for establishing itself as one of New York State's leaders in engaging, educating and empowering the public around the environment and government.  To build on this momentum and forge a stronger institution, the Board of Trustees took the step of commencing a comprehensive strategic planning process in the spring of 2008.  Their purpose was to establish a vision that would set NYLCVEF's trajectory for the next five years.

To accomplish this, a Board committee began work and a revised mission statement was adopted to help guide the process.  A thorough review of the organization's history and current activities was conducted to help frame both obstacles and goals.  The result is a Strategic Plan for NYLCVEF that clearly states the mission, visions and strategic priorities required to fulfill them.

Organized into three subsections - programmatic, organizational and financial/development - the Strategic Plan stresses constant themes, including: the need for increased and sustained funding to carry-out short and long term goals, the need to build a larger contact list for brand visibility and the opportunities for refinement and growth within the organization's programs.  Together, the Board and staff will implement this guide-to-the-future that clearly reflects NYLCVEF's vitality.

The Board of Trustees believes that if this plan is fully executed, it will position NYLCVEF to be:

  • An acknowledged source of unbiased information on New York's environmental issues;
  • An empowering force for New Yorkers, encouraging effective advocacy on behalf of the environment; and
  • An environmental watchdog for New York State and local government
