and Rensselaer counties take to address these challenges while encouraging economic growth?

The New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund presents the following agenda as a first step in steering the region's elected representatives toward a new appreciation of what environmental protection means in this critical area of our state.

Capital District policy makers have a long and largely successful history of preserving the vital waterways and open spaces that make the region unique. However, the Capital District has only begun to address other sustainability concerns, including the revitalization of older cities to encourage smart growth; the cleanup and reuse of former industrial sites; a patchwork mass transit system and development that continues to encroach on natural resources.

It is our hope that, through intelligent and forward-thinking planning, Capital District policy makers can address these problems and create communities that will be models of sustainability.
