Mayoral Forum On Sustainability - A Great Success!

The forum was the first of the campaign season to focus broadly on sustainability issues.The forum was the first of the campaign season to focus broadly on sustainability issues.The 2013 Mayoral Forum on Sustainability -- held on Earth Day, April 22 -- was a smashing success! More than 800 people packed into Cooper Union's Great Hall to hear the nine major mayoral candidates talk about their positions on sustainable transportation, solid waste, clean energy and much more. But the forum was only the beginning - we need to continue the effort to ensure that New York City remains committed to sustainability through the next administration and beyond. Roundtable Meeting With Brookhaven Town Supervisor

From the Carmans River to solid waste management, the Town of Brookhaven has no shortage of sustainability challenges. To help get a handle on the issues and set priorities, NYLCVEF convened an environmental roundtable with Long Island environmental organizations and the new Brookhaven Town Supervisor, Ed Romaine, on Dec. 18. Held at town hall, the meeting brought together some of the leading green groups working in the region.

Eco-Partners Welcome DEP Commissioner Strickland

New York City's sewage treatment plants recovered quickly from Hurricane Sandy, but the real question is what steps need to be taken to protect the system over the long term. So says Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Carter Strickland, who was the guest speaker at NYLCVEF's Eco-Partners Breakfast on Dec. 11.
