Our Guide To Greening New York's Capital DistrictNEW YORK --- The Capital District has a long history of environmental leadership, but how can local governments continue this trend while protecting and improving their economic base?
"A healthy environment and strong economy are keys to the Capital District's future," said Marcia Bystryn, president of the New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund. "By implementing the steps in our Capital District Policy Agenda, local officials can help create livable and sustainable communities while encouraging economic growth and protecting the region's high quality of life." NYLCVEF's "Capital District Policy Agenda" covers five broad policy areas: sustainable development, open space preservation, transportation, energy conservation and natural resource protection. By adopting the detailed recommendations in each of these areas, municipalities can develop comprehensive growth strategies that preserve their communities and their natural resources without compromising economic development. NYLCVEF's plan also encourages downtown revitalization and mixed-use and transit-oriented development, along with efforts to conserve energy in buildings.
