Our Blueprint For A Greener Westchester

NEW YORK - Westchester County took a crucial step toward a more sustainable future last year by adopting the Westchester Plan for Climate Change and Sustainable Development. To build on this plan - and chart a similar course for municipal governments in the county - the New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund (NYLCVEF) has released its "Blueprint for a Greener Westchester."

The issues addressed in this document, ranging from smart growth and transportation to open space preservation, also coincide with NYLCVEF's broad statewide advocacy goals as outlined in our 2009 New York State Policy Agenda.

"The Westchester Plan for Climate Change and Sustainable Development is a great step forward, and we applaud all of the individuals, organizations and elected officials who made it a reality," said Marcia Bystryn, president of NYLCVEF. "Our Blueprint for a Greener Westchester builds on the Westchester Plan and highlights some of the measures we believe to be of the greatest urgency. It is our hope that, through intelligent and forward-thinking planning, Westchester County and its municipalities can address these challenges and create communities that will be models of suburban sustainability."
