Energy Efficiency

  • The city of Ithaca has identified ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by purchasing Energy Star-rated equipment.
  • New York City is also now required to purchase Energy Star appliances in rental apartments when replacements are needed.
  • Suffolk passed a resolution in 2006 that requires the county to purchase 25 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2010.
  • PlaNYC 2030 commits 10% of the city's annual energy bill to fund energy-saving investments in city operations and increases the impact of its energy efficiency efforts through a coordinated energy education, awareness, and training campaign.
