Air Quality

  • New York City adopted a local law to reduce the emission of pollutants from the city's diesel fuel-powered motor vehicles. Similarly, the New York City Council adopted a local law to purchase cleaner vehicles.
  • The use of biodiesel fuel is encouraged within Suffolk County's fleet.
  • PlaNYC 2030 will:
    • pilot new technologies and fuels, including hydrogen and plug-in hybrid vehicles;
    • introduce biodiesel into the City's truck fleet, go beyond compliance with local laws, and further reduce emission;
    • reforest 2,000 acres of parkland; and
    • partner with stakeholders to help plant one million trees by 2017.
