Open Space Preservation

Open space is quickly disappearing in many parts of Long Island. While Nassau and Suffolk counties have made laudable efforts to preserve open space, it is clear that more needs to be done.

NYLCVEF strongly supports efforts to pass community preservation bonds, but local leaders also need to develop strategies that will stimulate economic development and encourage affordable housing. It is only then that the development pressure effecting "greenfields" will be sufficiently eased to permit the preservation of available open space.
