Volunteer Boards and Committees

In addition to elected and appointed officials and staff, local governments rely on advisory and regulatory volunteer committees, commissions, councils, boards and task forces. Citizen boards having environmental oversight or regulatory powers, or a combination of the two, typically include an Architectural Review Board, Conservation Advisory Council, Wetlands Control Commission, Waterfront Advisory Board, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Trails Committee and Master Plan Committee.

A list of volunteer boards, their chairpersons and phone numbers is available at the main administrative office in each community. To find out what volunteer boards do in your community, contact the committee chairs. To volunteer for environmental boards, initiate environmental programs such as composting or recycling, or to learn about the environmental programs and initiatives in your community, contact elected officials.
