New York City Waterfront and Greenways

Waterfront PathWaterfront PathGreenways: Linking Parks, Pedestrians and the Waterfront Together, these waterfront proposals provide a practical blueprint for completing a network of greenways along the water's edge. City and State greenway plans call for bicycle and pedestrian access throughout the City and along the waterfront, linking together major parks, pocket parks, public piers and waterfront public spaces. Plans for greenway links through each borough are in place - they range from a 30-mile bike path through Brooklyn and Queens around Jamaica Bay, to proposals for green pathways running through the heart of our City's commercial and residential centers. These greenways will make it possible for New Yorkers to move around more easily by bicycle and on foot, and will make it much easier to reach and enjoy our parks and public spaces. Mirroring the on-land greenway systems, ideas for expanding ferry and boating access to the waterfront would create urban "blueways." These would provide a network of transportation and recreational alternatives for the City's harbor, rivers, canals and waterways.
