This guide will introduce you to some of the current environmental issues in New York City and help you get involved in your community. The Guide is unique because it explains how the many levels of government affect the environmental issues that you care about – those in your community.

In the chapter entitled “Environmental Issues,” we have outlined the major issues of concern today and in the next five years. The next four chapters outline the responsibilities of and influences on the environment from federal, state, county and local governments.

This guide is intended to assist New Yorkers in navigating the maze of government agencies and laws, with the goal of becoming effective participants in the public process to address and help solve New York City's environmental problems. To request a hard copy of the guide please contact our NYC Policy Director.
