Legislative Commissions, Subcommissions and Task Forces

New York Legislative Office Building: Albany, NYNew York Legislative Office Building: Albany, NYLegislative Commissions, Subcommittees and Task Forces are more narrowly focused ad-hoc committees to the standing committees. They assist the legislative process by holding public hearings, researching and investigating issues and releasing reports.

Most Legislative Commissions have a Chair and Vice-Chair from the Senate and Assembly, respectively, as well as members from both houses. The following Commissions address environmental issues: Critical Transportation Choices, Development of Rural Resources and Solid Waste Management. The following Legislative Commissions exist only in the Assembly: Science and Technology, Toxic Substances and Hazardous Waste, and Water Resources for New York State and Long Island.

Subcommittees, Task Forces, Caucuses and Study Groups are special single-house committees. The following address environmental issues: Subcommittee on Energy and Schools and the Legislative Task Force on the Long Island Sound
