Field Organizer Job Description

The New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund (NYLCVEF), a nonprofit, nonpartisan environmental political organization, seeks a full-time Organizer to coordinate a strategic effort to identify and cultivate 100,000 environment-minded voters in New York City. The Organizer will also work with NYLCVEF's New York City Chapter to increase the organizations visibility throughout the five boroughs. This job will be based in the New York City office, and significant travel throughout the city is required.

Responsibilities

In conjunction with NYLCVEF staff, coordinate and implement a field-organizing program designed to create a network of 100,000 "Eco-voters" in New York City.

  • Oversee the day-to-day management of NYLCVEF's organizing activities
  • Identify speaking, tabling, recruiting and other visibility opportunities
  • Establish connections both online as well as through direct contact with groups such as educational, community-based, political and religious institutions
  • Assist with content management and expansion of NYLCVEF's online presence
  • Perform other duties as necessary; assist with special projects when required

Qualifications

This position requires a bachelor's degree and 1-3 years of relevant experience. Experience in organizing nonprofit advocacy programs, membership drives or political campaigns is required. Strong organizational skills are necessary. Must have excellent communication (oral, written and presentation) skills and the ability to motivate others while maintaining positive relationships. Time and project management skills are essential, including the ability to coordinate several simultaneous projects and events. Individual must be self-directed and self-motivated, with the ability to work collaboratively and independently. Strong computer skills, including database and Internet proficiency, are desired. Ideal candidate will have established New York City connections and an interest in New York City environmental issues and non-partisan electoral politics.
