Patrick M. Murphy (Treasurer)

  • Patrick Murphy is a successful business executive with a life-long passion for public service and community affairs.
  • In October 2010, Mr. Murphy joined the Reiser Group at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney to focus on wealth management for pension plans, endowments and individuals.
  • From 2006-2010, Mr. Murphy was the head of New York City's Fashion/Retail Strategic Initiatives at the NYC Economic Development Corporation, a position established by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg to support one of the largest industries in New York City.  During his tenure Mr. Murphy led and executed a number of mayoral initiatives: the move of the bi-annual Fashion Week to Lincoln Center, establishment of the NYC Fashion Incubator to support high potential young talent, and Fashion.NYC.2020, a long-term strategic plan for the fashion industry, chaired by Terry J. Lundgren and Diane von Furstenberg. 
  • Prior to joining the Bloomberg administration, Mr. Murphy spent over 15 years in marketing consulting, and led large client engagements with Fortune 500 companies such as AT&T, American Express, Barnes & Noble, Prudential Insurance and Quaker Oats.  From 1999-2004, he served as a Vice President and Director at Digitas, a large direct marketing consulting concern.   From 1994-1999 he served in various positions at FCBDirect, a large direct marketing company.  Mr. Murphy began his career at Jordan, McGrath, an advertising agency that has since merged into Arnold Worldwide.
  • Mr. Murphy has received numerous industry awards including the "American Express Chairman's Award," "Mediaweek Best Use of Media Award," and the "Direct Marketing Association Silver Echo Award."  
  • Mr. Murphy has always had a passion for public service.  As a college student, he interned for legendary environmental leader Senator John Chafee.  In 2001, Mr. Murphy was selected to participate in Leadership New York, a prestigious civic training program that builds future city leaders.
  • Believing that New York City needed more independent leaders to address long-standing problems such as education reform and fiscal stability, in 2005 Mr. Murphy ran for City Council to represent the East Side of Manhattan. He received the endorsement of Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, the New York League of Conservation Voters, the Citizens Union, the Empire State Pride Agenda, the NY Daily News and the NY Post.  
  • He served on the national board of the Log Cabin Republicans, which fights for Gay and Lesbian civil rights within that party.  In 2004, he led Log Cabin's effort to raise over $1 million to successfully defeat the proposed constitutional amendment to ban same sex marriage. 
  • Mr. Murphy is a board member of the Carter Burden Center for the Aging and chairs its development committee. He has served on the boards of DirectEffect, an organization that supports AIDS research efforts at Rockefeller University, and the Newport International Film Festival. He served on the marketing committee of Jazz at Lincoln Center and helped launch its dramatic space at Columbus Circle, and is also a former advisory member of the Miracle House board.
  • Mr. Murphy was born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island.  He graduated from the Moses Brown School and received a BS in political science from the College of the Holy Cross.
