Joseph L. Boren - Chairman and CEO, AIG Environmental

Joseph L. Boren is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of AIG Environmental, the leading U.S. provider of environmental insurance products and services.  Joe has been instrumental in addressing the inherent uncertainty of environmental liabilities in transactions involving some of the countries largest Superfund and Brownfield sites, federal government facilities, commercial mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, real estate and fixed facilities.

Joe began his environmental career before the first Earth Day in 1970 and since that time has always worked in the field of environmental protection.  He has managed a hazardous waste remediation company, as well as a business that operated water and waste water treatment plants; he has developed waste to energy facilities, and spent a significant amount of time in the solid and hazardous waste collection and disposal business. Joe brings innovation and thought leadership through his unique perspective of having experience in virtually every segment of the environmental market ‑ as a regulator, practitioner, and insurer.

Several years ago, Joe was asked to lead the AIG effort in the Global Climate Change debate.  Today AIG has an Office of Environment and Climate Change and is the first U.S. insurer to join the U.S. Climate Action Partnership (USCAP), a coalition calling for federal action to cap greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. and for an economy-wide emissions trading system to combat climate change.  In addition, AIG is operating a green fund and creating some climate related insurance products.

He holds a bachelor degree in Business and Industrial Communications from Emerson College, an MBA from the University of Bridgeport, and Graduate Degree in Environmental Management from the Von Kleinsmid Center for International and Public Affairs, School of Public Administration, University of Southern California.
