John P. Cahill

John P. Cahill - Counsel, Chadbourne and Parke LLP

John Cahill's practice concentrates on energy, environmental and corporate matters. Prior to joining Chadbourne and Parke LLP, he served as New York Governor George Pataki's Secretary and Chief of Staff from 2002-2006. In May 2005, Mr. Cahill took on the additional role of leading and coordinating the rebuilding of the World Trade Center site and the recovery of Lower Manhattan. From 1995 to 2001, he was the general counsel and then commissioner of the state's Department of Environmental Conservation. Mr. Cahill was also a partner in the law firm of Plunkett & Jaffe where he focused on environmental and municipal issues.

Honors

Mr. Cahill has been recognized by numerous organizations for his public service. In November 2005, he was honored by the Historic Hudson Valley as the recipient of the Hero Award for his extensive work in preserving the historic heritage of the Hudson Valley. He was the recipient of the 2004 Ellis Island Medal of Honor, which is presented to U.S. citizens for their outstanding contributions to America. In 1999, the Adirondack Council presented him with the Conservationist of the Year Award for his conservation efforts in the Adirondack Park. Additionally, the National Audubon society presented Mr. Cahill with its William B. Hoyt award for his statewide conservation efforts.

Activities and Affiliations

Mr. Cahill is a member of the New York State Bar Association (Environmental Law Section), the Independent Judicial Election Qualification Commission (Second Department) and the New York State Temporary Commission of Investigation. He also serves on the board of the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation.
